Delivery platforms across the UAE have introduced additional safety measures to protect riders as the country's annual midday work ban remains in force until September 15. During the restricted hours of 12.30pm to 3pm, riders can be assigned a maximum of three deliveries with a total delivery time of no more than 60 minutes. Companies including Careem and Talabat have also updated their systems to reduce workloads, extend delivery estimates and prioritise rider safety during the hottest part of the day.
The platforms have expanded access to more than 12,000 air-conditioned rest stations across the UAE, with interactive maps built into rider apps to help workers find nearby cooling areas. Careem has also launched a four-month summer initiative that includes cooling stations, health checks and guidance on staying hydrated, while Talabat has introduced regular safety reminders. The measures support the UAE's Occupational Heat Stress Prevention Policy, which aims to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses during the summer months.
