Teen Mountaineer Becomes First Emirati to Conquer Lenin Peak

Nineteen-year-old Emirati mountaineer Fatima Abdulrahman Al Awadhi has made history by becoming the first Emirati to reach the summit of Lenin Peak in Kyrgyzstan, standing at 7,134 metres. The achievement also makes her the youngest Arab to climb above 7,000 metres and marks the highest mountain she has conquered to date, further advancing her quest to complete the Seven Summits and the prestigious Explorer's Grand Slam.

The challenging expedition lasted around three weeks and included an acclimatisation phase before the final push to the summit. Al Awadhi completed the climb without supplementary oxygen, overcoming one of Central Asia's most demanding peaks, known for its extreme weather, glaciers and high-altitude conditions. At the summit, she raised the UAE flag for the first time on Lenin Peak and carried a message from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan promoting ambition, resilience and hope for young people around the world.

The milestone adds to an already impressive list of achievements for the young climber, who has previously become the youngest Emirati to summit Mount Elbrus and the youngest Arab to reach both Vinson Massif in Antarctica and Carstensz Pyramid in Oceania. A full-time university student and scholarship recipient, Al Awadhi said she hopes her journey inspires young Emiratis, particularly women, to pursue ambitious goals and believe in what they can achieve through perseverance and hard work.
