Mosques across Sharjah will hold special rain prayers, known as Salaat Al Istisqaa, at 11:38am on Friday. The prayer will take place at all mosques in the emirate where Friday prayers are performed.
The prayers follow a directive from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan calling for rain prayers to be held across the UAE. The nationwide prayers will take place 30 minutes before the regular Friday prayer, in accordance with the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Salaat Al Istisqaa is a special Islamic prayer performed during periods of scarce or delayed rainfall, with worshippers seeking rain, mercy and blessings. The prayer is accompanied by supplication and repentance and has traditionally been performed during dry periods.
