DR Congo's famous supporter Michel Kuka Mboladinga, better known as “Lumumba Vea”, has finally joined the team at the World Cup after missing their opening match against Portugal due to travel restrictions linked to an Ebola outbreak in his home country. Mboladinga became a sensation during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations for his unique matchday ritual, standing motionless in tribute to independence hero Patrice Lumumba while dressed in a style reminiscent of the former Congolese leader.
His arrival comes ahead of DR Congo's Group K clash with Colombia in Guadalajara, with the nation hoping his presence can inspire the team following their historic 1-1 draw against Portugal. Mboladinga's symbolic support has made him a national figure, although he previously found himself at the centre of controversy when Algeria's Mohamed Amoura mocked his distinctive pose during the Africa Cup of Nations, prompting an apology from the Algerian Football Federation.
