Taylor Swift makes history at 2026 MTV VMAs

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards took place in Los Angeles on Sunday, bringing together some of the biggest names in music. Taylor Swift won Video of the Year for The Fate of Ophelia, while Madonna led the night with seven awards, including Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration alongside Sabrina Carpenter.

Swift also picked up the new Artist Director Honor, recognising her work developing a distinctive visual style through her music videos. Madonna’s Confessions II – The Film was another major winner, taking home awards including Best Dance, Best Cinematography, Best Choreography and Best Long Form Video.

Elsewhere, BTS won Song of the Year for Swim and Best K-Pop, while LISA took Best Pop for Dream. Sienna Spiro was named Best New Artist, with Cardi B, Bruno Mars, Olivia Rodrigo, Bad Bunny and Ella Langley among the other category winners.

The ceremony also featured a major honour for Nirvana, who received the Video Vanguard Award. Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the show included performances from several of music’s biggest stars and marked another notable night for both Swift and Madonna.
