Has the Next James Bond Has Already Been Chosen?

However Gary Oldman has claimed that producers have already chosen the next actor to play James Bond, although the official announcement has yet to be made. Oldman, who stars alongside Bond favourite Jack Lowden in Slow Horses, said he believes the decision has been made and that an announcement is coming “soon”. He also publicly backed Lowden for the iconic role.

Lowden has recently emerged as the favourite to replace Daniel Craig, who played Bond for the final time in 2021’s No Time to Die. Other actors reportedly in contention include Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi and Harris Dickinson. The next film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Amy Pascal and David Heyman involved in the decision over the new Bond.

Former Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams stressed that the new actor needs to retain an element of mystery. She argued that audiences should know relatively little about Bond personally, allowing the character to maintain his enigmatic spy persona. Meanwhile, former Bond actor Rory Kinnear has suggested the new film could retain some continuity with the previous era while taking the franchise in a new direction.
