El Niño Could Bring More Humidity and Autumn Rain to the UAE

A strengthening El Niño climate pattern is expected to have little impact on the UAE during the summer, but meteorologists say residents could notice significant changes by autumn. According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the phenomenon is unlikely to cause a major rise in temperatures, but it could increase humidity, encourage cloud formation and raise the chances of rainfall, particularly during October and November. While El Niño has already contributed to tropical storms and heavy rainfall across parts of East Asia, its effects on the UAE are expected to arrive later in the year.

Despite global weather shifts, the UAE has remained relatively dry through May and June, with forecasters saying local atmospheric conditions have not yet been favourable for widespread rain. However, as seasonal patterns change, increased moisture in the atmosphere could lead to more frequent showers during the autumn months. The outlook comes after parts of Al Ain experienced unusual summer rainfall this week, although experts stress that El Niño’s biggest influence on the UAE is still expected to come later in the year.
