Dubai Approves Road Project to Cut Journey Times by More Than Half

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded the contract for the Dh2 billion Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor Development Project, a major road upgrade designed to ease congestion and support the emirate's rapid growth. Stretching 12 kilometres, the project will transform Latifa bint Hamdan Street with four lanes in each direction, seven bridges, eight tunnels and a new road linking Al Khail Road to the street's extension. Once complete, it will increase the east-west road network's capacity by 12% and serve more than 600,000 residents and visitors.

One of the biggest benefits for motorists will be a dramatic reduction in travel time between Umm Al Sheif Street and Emirates Road, with journeys expected to fall from 33 minutes to just 15 minutes – a 54% improvement. The project will also boost traffic capacity by up to 176%, reduce delays at key junctions and improve connections to major routes including Al Khail Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Umm Suqeim Street and Dubai-Al Ain Road, helping to create smoother journeys across the city.
