Dubai motorists are starting June with updated travel costs, as new charges have come into effect for both public parking and Salik tolls across the emirate. While drivers will notice slightly higher bills, there are still ways to avoid paying extra by taking advantage of free parking periods and toll-free travel windows.

Dubai Parking: 5% VAT Now Applied

As of June 1, 2026, Dubai’s public parking operator, Parkin, has introduced a 5% Value Added Tax (VAT) on all parking services.

The good news for motorists is that parking tariffs themselves have not increased. Instead, VAT is added to the final amount paid through parking meters, SMS payments, or the Parkin app.

Salik Charges Also Updated

Salik toll fees are also now subject to 5% VAT, resulting in a slight increase in the amount motorists pay when passing through Dubai’s toll gates.

In addition, Salik’s dynamic pricing system remains in place, with toll charges varying depending on the time of day.

When Can You Drive for Free?

Drivers can avoid Salik charges during designated toll-free periods, including:

  • Between 1am and 6am daily
  • Certain public holidays announced by authorities
