Following the rare eruption of Ethiopia’s Hayli Gubbi volcano that sent ash clouds up to 14 km into the sky, UAE airlines provided travel updates amid the disruption. Emirates and flydubai confirmed their operations, including flights to Addis Ababa, are continuing as normal and that they have detected no disruption from volcanic ash. Meanwhile, Air Arabia has cancelled several routes from Sharjah to destinations across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, advising affected passengers to re-book or request refunds.

The volcanic ash drifted east over Yemen, Oman, India and northern Pakistan according to the Toulouse Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC). Although some flights outside the UAE have been affected, especially in India, the major UAE carriers say they are monitoring the situation closely and prioritising passenger and crew safety.
