Cristo Fernández, best known for playing the ever-optimistic Dani Rojas in Ted Lasso, has achieved a lifelong dream by making his professional football debut for USL Championship side El Paso Locomotive FC. The 35-year-old came on as a substitute in the 79th minute during his team's 2-0 defeat to New Mexico United and even picked up a yellow card before the final whistle.
Before becoming an actor, Fernández had been a promising youth player with Mexico's Tecos FC, but a serious injury ended his hopes of turning professional. After finding global success with Ted Lasso, he reignited his football ambitions by training with Chicago Fire's reserve team before earning a contract with El Paso. Reflecting on his remarkable journey from actor to professional footballer, Fernández said he was thrilled to prove that "football is life" both on and off the screen.
