Ted Lasso star Cristo Fernández, best known for playing fan-favourite striker Dani Rojas, has signed a professional football contract with El Paso Locomotive FC in the United States. The 35-year-old earned the deal after a two-month trial with the club, including appearances in preseason matches.
Before becoming an actor, Fernández played youth football in Mexico but stepped away from the sport after a knee injury at 15. He said the dream of playing professionally “never truly left” him, while El Paso coach Junior Gonzalez praised the actor’s passion, leadership and attacking ability. The move means Fernández is now living out the same football dream as his iconic on-screen character.
