Laura Dern is set to join the cast of The White Lotus for its upcoming fourth season, following the unexpected departure of Helena Bonham Carter. The Oscar-winning actress comes on board shortly after Bonham Carter left the production, despite only recently being announced as part of the ensemble.

The exit was reportedly due to creative issues, with the role originally written for Bonham Carter no longer fitting once filming began. As a result, the part is being rewritten rather than directly recast. Dern will not simply take over the same role, instead, creator Mike White is developing a brand-new character specifically for her.
Details about Dern’s role remain under wraps, but her casting marks a reunion with White, whom she has previously worked with on projects like Enlightened. The new season of the hit HBO series is currently in production and will once again follow guests and staff at a luxury resort, continuing its signature mix of drama, satire, and mystery.
