Manchester City are in a world of trouble!

Manchester City have been found guilty of serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules covering nine seasons between 2009 and 2018. An independent commission ruled that the club used “sham” commercial agreements to artificially increase reported revenues and reduce costs, with the Premier League saying the arrangements affected more than £900 million in financial reporting. The commission also found that City had failed to properly cooperate with the league’s investigation.

City strongly deny the findings and have said they will appeal the decision, arguing that the commission’s conclusions contain significant errors of fact and law. The club now has until Friday to formally lodge its appeal. No punishment has yet been announced, with sanctions to be decided separately.

Potential consequences could include a substantial fine, a points deduction or, in the most serious scenario, expulsion from the Premier League. Rival clubs are also considering possible compensation claims, while the outcome could have wider implications for past title races, European qualification and prize money. The case, which began with allegations emerging in 2018 and formally resulted in charges in 2023, is therefore far from over.
