Dubai has officially introduced fully driverless taxis, marking a major milestone in the city’s push toward smart mobility. The service, launched through a partnership between Dubai Taxi Company and Baidu’s Apollo Go platform, allows residents and visitors to book rides via a dedicated app without any human driver behind the wheel. The rollout begins with around 50 autonomous vehicles, with plans to expand the fleet to more than 1,000 in the coming years.

This initiative is part of Dubai’s broader Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to make 25% of all journeys in the city driverless by 2030. The taxis use advanced autonomous technology, combining sensors, cameras, radar and AI systems to navigate roads safely. Officials say the project represents a significant step toward smarter, safer, and more efficient transport, with further integration into other ride-hailing platforms expected as the service expands.
