Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest mountain, has temporarily suspended all activities as authorities carry out safety assessments and maintenance following recent heavy rainfall.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, officials confirmed that adverse weather conditions between December 17 and 19 led to standing water in several areas across Jebel Jais. As a result, targeted maintenance work is required to ensure that safety standards are fully met before operations resume.

As a precautionary measure, temporary road closures have been implemented alongside essential maintenance efforts. All activities at the destination will remain suspended until further notice while specialist teams conduct thorough inspections and safety assessments.

Authorities acknowledged that winter is typically the peak season for Jebel Jais but emphasized that the decision was made with visitor safety as the top priority.

Visitors have also been advised not to camp in wadis during this period of unsettled weather. Officials warned that standing water in certain locations could cause shifting rocks and slippery pathways. Although hiking and climbing areas have not been officially closed, specialized teams are currently evaluating conditions, and visitors are urged to exercise caution and avoid affected routes where necessary.
