Dubai has announced its largest-ever transport project, with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum unveiling a new Dh34 billion Metro Gold Line. The 42km fully underground line will include 18 stations and connect key areas across the city, linking with existing metro lines as well as the future Etihad Rail network. Once completed, the expansion is expected to significantly boost connectivity and support Dubai’s continued growth.
The new line is designed to serve around 1.5 million residents and could carry up to 465,000 passengers daily by 2040, helping to ease congestion as the population rises. Scheduled to open in 2032, the Gold Line will expand the metro network by roughly a quarter and is a central part of Dubai’s long-term vision to create a more efficient, sustainable, and well-connected transport system.
