Over the weekend, many Dubai residents were left scratching their heads and sharing videos online after unusual green lights appeared in the night sky, especially over Downtown Dubai and nearby areas like Karama. Some people jokingly claimed they had spotted “aliens” or compared the strange glow to scenes from Stranger Things, while others speculated it might be drones, skydivers with flares, or even laser shows from well-known landmarks like the Burj Khalifa.
However, the lights weren’t extraterrestrial at all. The glowing green effect was caused by powerful laser beams used in a promotional display at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). These laser beams shot up into the sky and reflected off low-lying clouds, creating a bright, otherworldly glow that looked unusual from the ground. It wasn’t part of the usual Burj Khalifa laser shows, Dubai Frame displays, or any cosmic event, just light interacting with the clouds and spreading in the sky. No aliens involved.
