Friday has arrived, which can only mean one thing: it’s time to make room on your playlist. This week, Channel 4 is adding four new tracks that cover everything from global pop royalty to Turkish girl-group energy and seriously danceable electronic beats. And there are a couple of very familiar sounds hiding in there too…

First up, Abdo lookalike Pitbull has a new album ‘Pitcoin’ out today! It’s full of collaborations, including a new track with Akon “1 2 3 Back It Up”, a track that wastes absolutely no time getting into party mode. The track samples The Sugarhill Gang’s “Apache (Jump On It)”, which you’ve definitely heard when you’re OUT OUT. So if your brain suddenly goes, “Hang on… I KNOW this one,” you absolutely do.

Then there’s “TRALALA” from Manifest, the six-member Turkish girl group. The new single is their first fully English-language single, giving the group a chance to introduce their pop sound to an even wider audience. It’s glossy, playful and built around a seriously catchy vocal hook. Basically, the sort of song that can get stuck in your head before you’ve even worked out how it happened.

Meanwhile, Disco Lines brings us “Got To Do”, and here’s another one for the musical detectives. The track incorporates the unmistakable hook from Fat Joe and Ashanti’s 2002 hit “What’s Luv?”, itself famously built around the refrain from Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do with It.” So yes, Disco Lines has essentially taken something you might remember from the early 2000s and given it a fresh dancefloor makeover. And finally, Sofi Tukker and OneRepublic team up for “Tsunami”. It’s a fun meeting of Sofi Tukker’s electronic sound and OneRepublic’s pop sensibilities, with Ryan Tedder involved in the songwriting. Sofi Tukker have said the song went through several versions before they landed on the finished track, which they wanted to feel timeless, musical and lush.

Four new additions, a couple of musical Easter eggs and absolutely no excuse for a boring Friday. 104.8 Channel 4 have got you sorted!
