Dubai has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest virtual sign language class, bringing together more than 6,000 participants in a powerful moment of unity and inclusion.
The record-breaking initiative was part of the Dubai Communicates in Sign Language campaign, led by the Community Development Authority and overseen by the Higher Committee for the Protection of the Rights of People of Determination. Officials say the milestone reflects Dubai’s ongoing commitment to inclusive communication and social cohesion.
The virtual class smashed the previous Guinness World Record set in India in 2017, which saw 1,442 participants. This time, government and private sector employees, students, residents and citizens from across the UAE joined forces to learn the basics of Emirati sign language.
What made the achievement even more special was the diversity of those involved. Participants from different nationalities and backgrounds logged in together, showing strong community engagement and a growing awareness of the importance of accessibility and inclusion.
The initiative also aligns with Dubai Social Agenda 33, which places quality of life, inclusion and social harmony at the centre of the emirate’s future vision.
