Sharing with 104.8 Channel 4’s 1.2 million listeners, he spoke about how Artemis II has made history by sending astronauts farther from Earth than any humans have ever travelled before! During the mission, the crew entered the Moon’s gravitational pull and performed a lunar flyby, marking the first time humans have ventured this far into deep space since the Apollo era more than 50 years ago. The journey is part of a 10-day mission that loops around the Moon before returning to Earth, setting a new distance record beyond the one set during Apollo 13.
The mission is a major step in NASA’s long-term plans to return humans to the Moon and eventually travel to Mars. Astronauts are using the flight to test the Orion spacecraft and gather valuable data, while also gaining a rare view of the Moon’s far side, an area never seen directly by humans in real time before. The success of Artemis II is expected to pave the way for future missions, including a planned crewed Moon landing later this decade.
