The Hoverboard is real and it's here!

Back in 1989 a little film came out called Back to the Future II, where Marty McFly travels with his scientist friend Doc Brown to 2015.

In the film Marty rides a Hoverboard. In the 1990s huge rumours were flying around about the Hoverboard being a real thing… this was before internet, they had no idea what they were taking about!

Ever since, scientist from all over the world have tried, and failed to make a Hoverboard….

Until now! Check out the Lexus Hoverboard!

It took 18 months to design the Hoverboard, using magnetic levitation technology and liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors, which is the smoke looking stuff that comes out the side, which look awesome!

It keeps the board at -197°C which allows it to hover, we don’t know how! But why hasn’t anyone thought of this before?!

Here’s Dr Oliver de Haas, CEO of design team evico explaining how it all works "The magnetic field from the track is effectively 'frozen' into the superconductors in the board, maintaining the distance between the board and track – essentially keeping the board in a hover.

The hoverboard isn’t available for sale yet, as it only hovers for 15 minutes at a time, and needs loads of scientists around to make sure it’s working. So we still have to wait!

It’s still super cool though!
