New law to auction off confiscated cars after 3 months
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a law regulating the disposition of impounded vehicles in the emirate.
The law will introduce a committee that will sell the cars up for public auction.
The committee includes representatives from Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, the Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Public Prosecution and other concerned government entities.
The committee will be tasked with checking and evaluating the impounded vehicles and making sure, in coordination with the authorities, whether they were confiscated by any other body.
The law will make Dubai Police responsible for getting rid of vehicles that have been confiscated and not collected for more than 3 months after impoundment in coordination and cooperation with other government authorities.
Car owners will be given a 30-day notice period before the car goes up for auction.
