Minimum highway speed limit may be set to 100kmph!

Authorities are currently looking at plans to raise the minimum speed limit on highways across the UAE.

The new minimum speed limit would be 100kmph as part of a strategy to curb accidents.

Head of the Federal Traffic Council Major General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin was quoted by ‘Al Bayan’ saying that he made the proposal after studies showed that a wide gap between maximum and minimum speed limits is a key cause of accidents on motorways.

Studies released say that when all traffic on a road is travelling within a 20kmph speed different - there are less accidents.

“For this reason, we have sent a proposal to the relevant authorities setting the minimum speed limit on motorways at 100kmph."

Trucks will have a different minimum speed.

What do you think to these plans?
