Haven't paid your traffic fines? You can't leave the country!
Traffic authorities in Abu Dhabi have decided to up the payment rules when it comes to traffic violations in the emirate. Including getting rid of the 50% which was seized yesterday.
The Federal Traffic Council were the ones to put forward the idea, if and when the new plan is approved expats across the emirate will not be allowed to leave the country if they do not pay their traffic fines. An expert on the matter spoke to The National saying: "It’ll create a slight change in behaviour as some expatriates will try to pay extra attention to their driving."
The new rule could also deter drivers to not build up traffic fines, which is very common across the UAE, if a driver plans to leave the country but has Dh4,000 in fines to pay, but person doesn't have the money they could end up missing their flight.
