Dubai is going GREEN!

By 2030, Dubai is expected to have solar panels on the roofs every building in the city, as part of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, that was launched yesterday.

Hi Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai launched the new strategy yesterday in a bid to make Dubai a global centre of green energy and economy.

As part of the new strategy, His Highness revealed plans for a new free zone called the Dubai Green Zone, which will be home to development and research centres for clean energy.

By 2020 it is estimated that Dubai's energy sourced from clean energy will be at about 7%, this will then increase by 25% by 2030, once solar panels have been installed on to all the roofs in Dubai and finally, 75% of the energy provided to Dubai will be brought in by clean energy sources.

Sheikh Mohammed said yesterday, “The strategy aims to provide 75 per cent of the emirate’s energy through clean energy sources by 2050, reflecting our commitment to establish a sustainable model in energy conservation which can be exported to the whole world, and support economic growth without damaging the environment and natural resources. Our goal is to become the city with the smallest carbon footprint in the world by 2050.”
