Dubai is cigarette free... For one day only!
Hypermarkets & petrol stations in Dubai have been asked to not sell cigarettes to mark World No Tobacco Day!
It is being called “A Day Without Tobacco” by Dubai Municipality.
This is the sixth year of the campaign in Dubai. It was launched in 2010 with just 50 petrol stations stopping the sale of cigarettes for 24 hours.
Today, it is much more than that! Noora Mohammed Musairi, the head of Planning and Development Section of the Public Health and Safety Department, Dubai has said she has all shops will be participating this year.
“Almost all shops have agreed that they will stop the sale of cigarettes,” she said on Saturday.
“It is a public health initiative and we expect all of them to participate. Before it was voluntary, but now it is a must.”
Smokers are encouraged to sign up for the quit-smoking programme at the department’s booths at Mirdif City Centre and The Dubai Mall yesterday and today.
