CONFIRMED: Thursday is a public holiday

Hijri new year will this year fall on Wednesday, October 14... However, Thursday is the day that will be a public holiday.

It's because government rules state “any public holiday can be moved to the beginning or to the end of a week if it falls between two working days”.

The rule is there to make it easier on employees and employers. Therefore, it was decided that the Hijri New Year 1437 public holiday will be moved to Thursday and official working hours resume on Sunday, October 18.

The private sector will receive the same holiday after Saqr Ghobash, Minister of Labour, issued a circular announcing Thursday, October 15, will be a paid public holiday for those employed with private sector entities, organisations and companies in the UAE.
