Guide to your first Ramadan in the UAE!
What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Calendar, during which fasting is observed from dawn to sunset.
When does Ramadan start?
Ramadan varies from year to year by 11 days as per moon sightings. In 2017 Ramadan will start on May 27 and ends on June 24.
Who should fast?
Fasting during the month of Ramadan is obligatory for every mature (over the age of puberty), sane, and healthy Muslim.
What if i'm not muslim?
You can eat inside your house or hotel room in UAE, while you can only eat in public after sunset (Maghrib Prayers). You should also avoid listening to loud music during the month of ramadan.
What is Maghrib Prayers?
Maghrib is the 4th prayer out of the 5 prayers in Islam. Muslims break their fasting by Maghrib Azan.
How do you greet people in Ramadan?
Common greetings during Ramadan are "Ramadan Mubarak" or "Ramadan Kareem", which is wishing the person a blessed Ramadan.
